Purpose:Demonstrate transmission of microwaves in a tubular "waveguide."
Description:A microwave transmitter and receiver are separated by a distance of approximately 2 meters, and the transmitter is adjusted so that a weak signal is being received. Then a metal waveguide of approximately that length is slid into place, and it can be seen that the signal strength increases.
If the receiver is then moved to the side of the waveguide, the shielding effect can be seen wherein the signal drops to nearly zero.
