• Purpose: Demonstrate that there exist ultrasonic waves with frequencies above the range of human hearing.
• Description: The oscillator drives a supertweeter at frequencies from 500 Hz to over 25 kHz. The microphone signal on the oscilloscope provides evidence that the ultrasonic waves really are present, even when inaudible.

  Invite students to raise their hands when they can or cannot hear the sound, and discuss natural variation in hearing, and how hearing can change with age and environment.

  Caution: Be careful with volume levels if you have any students with service dogs.
