G3-46: STANDING WAVES IN A WIRE LOOP

Purpose: Illustrate circular standing waves; to use as a model of stationary states in atoms corresponding to standing waves of electrons in Bohr orbits.

G3-45: RESONANCE OF WIRES

Purpose: Show standing waves in heavy wires fixed at one end.

G3-42: TORSIONAL WAVES

Purpose: Demonstrate wave phenomena such as traveling waves, standing waves, and reflection of waves.

G3-41: WAVE MODELS - PROJECTION

Purpose: Demonstrate standing waves, travelling waves, and superposition of waves.

G3-29: SUSPENDED SLINKY - PORTABLE

Purpose: Show longitudinal and transverse traveling waves and standing waves.

G3-27: AIR TABLE - TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL WAVES

Purpose: Demonstrate transverse and longitudinal waves using an air table.

G3-26: AIR TRACK - LONGITUDINAL WAVES

Purpose: Demonstrate longitudinal waves with a series of spring-coupled air track gliders.

G3-25: SLINKY ON LECTURE TABLE - IMPEDANCE MISMATCH

Purpose: Show partial reflections and dependence of wave speed on density of the medium.

G3-11: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - RESONANCE ABSORPTION

Purpose: Demonstrate resonance absorption of wave energy by a mass-on-spring system.

G3-10: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - BRANCHING

Purpose: Demonstrate branching and recombining with two wave machines in parallel.

G3-09: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - FREQUENCY FILTERING

Purpose: Demonstrate frequency filtering through a "filter" consisting of four weighted crossarms and the interference from partial reflections they produce.

G3-08: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - FABREY-PEROT INTERFEROMETER

Purpose: Demonstrate the mechanical analog of the optical Fabrey-Perot interferometer.

G3-07: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - TAPERED TRANSFORMER

Purpose: Useful for obtaining a reasonably good impedance match between the two large segments of the Shive machine.

G3-05: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - PARTIAL REFLECTIONS

Purpose: Show that a wave will be partially reflected at a point where the impedance changes.

G3-06: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - IMPEDANCE MATCHING

Purpose: Show that no reflection occurs when the impedance of the load (absorber at right) matches the impedance of the wave machine.

G3-03: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - REFLECTION OF PULSES

Purpose: Demonstrate reflection of pulses from fixed ends and free ends.

G3-02: SHIVE WAVE MACHINE - SUPERPOSITION OF PULSES

Purpose: Demonstrate constructive and destructive interference using pulses.
