• Description: Two matching 500-turn coils from the demountable transformer set are positioned adjacent to each other. Switching the current in the primary on and off induces short spikes of current in the secondary. Rods of various core materials are available; experiment with the class to determine their effect on the induced current. While holding down the key so that current is flowing in the primary coil, insert and remove various cores. Have the class make predictions as to the effect of different materials.
