Purpose: Trick the unwary student
Description: A phony "Maine license plate" has been rigged so that if only the tops of the letters are seen it appears to say SCIENCE. Cover the letters with a white cardboard baffle, and lower the baffle until everyone recognizes that the sign says SCIENCE.
Point out that in science we try to see enough of the total situation that we avoid dumb conclusions like the one they just made.
