The first images from the new Vera Rubin telescope in Chile have been released today. Highlights include detailed imaging of the Virgo Cluster, the Trifid Nebula, and a large number of asteroids.

The observatory's wide-field telescope, including the larges CCD camera ever constructed, will allow for rapid high-quality surveys of large areas of the sky.
